The Demanding One

Always a Critic

A Slippery Slope

Big Mac lies? The recent Bill Simmons post on espn.com brings up the issue of Mark McGwire’s hall of fame candidacy. Mark, as we’ll call him, is the first of what will be many “known” steroid users up for the HOF. Known in quotes as we don’t actually have his confession like we do Bonds and Giambi. It’s a wonder why people still call Bonds and Giambi “alleged” steroid cheats, when they themselves have admitted it, but that is a story for another day. Nonetheless, the debate is a nasty one; being that while Mark used steroids, he did so before they were illegal in baseball. He broke the rule of the nation, but not the sport. Should he get in on the basis of achievement within the rules of baseball or be left out as a felon within the rules of the country?

I think Mark should be voted into the Hall of Fame. He broke no laws or rules of baseball. You can’t convict someone of a crime when it wasn’t a crime when they did it. Besides alot of athletes at that time were using” supplements” to enhance there performance. You only here about the stars not the average players. Speaking about the HOF, I also feel Pete Rose should be voted in. The HOF is to honor players that have performed exemplary on the field which Rose definitely did. It is not an ethics award. Even “The Donald “gave Miss America,Tara ,a second chance, because it is more a beauty contest than a morals contest.
